Be'Emenet Orphanage and School: Foundation Project

The Be'emnet Orphanage was founded in 2001 and is located in the Hadiya region of Southern Ethiopia, an area where over 50% of the population is under age 15. The majority of the 40 orphans cared for at Be'emnet were orphaned by HIV/AIDS, and they range in age from 6 years old to 16 years old.

Be'emnet is hoping to expand its programs to help the estimated 6,000 orphans in the area by providing housing at the orphanage, education and job skills. The children are currently sleeping on very thin mattresses on the floor of a small building and growing much of the food they consume, including beans and potatoes.

By partnering with Ethiopian Orphan Relief, you can help fund the completion of a new foundation for the building of an orphanage and school facility at Be'emnet in Hosanna, which will benefit up to 100 orphaned children each year. In addition to the initial construction costs of the new foundation, your contribution will also secure the rights to the land on which the foundation is built.

Are you travelling to Ethiopia in the near future? The following is a list of physical donations currently needed and requested by  Be'Emnet. For information on pickup or drop-off of donations once you are in Ethiopia, please contact us at info@ethiopianorphanrelief.org. Not travelling in the near future, but want to help? Gift cards and gift certificates from drug and department stores are appreciated! We'll also do the shopping if you choose to make a gift by check and write "physical donations-Be'emnet" in the memo line. Whenever possible, we attempt to use these cash donations in Ethiopia to also help support the local economy.
