AHOPE's mission is to serve the children of Ethiopia, with primary emphasis on orphans infected with HIV. AHOPE provides two orphanage homes that serve about 100 HIV positive children. AHOPE employs multiple professionals including a pediatrician, nurses, teachers and social workers/counselors. In addition to these orphanages, AHOPE Child Development Center serves as a community outreach program. It provides services essential to enabling extended family to keep orphaned children at home. The first center was opened in September 2007 in an impoverished neighborhood of Addis Ababa. It has the capacity to assist 100 children and their guardians. It is designed as a model suitable for replication in other needy areas as funding allows. The children are provided with all the essentials to thrive including food, clothing, psycho-social support and schooling.
In 2009 EOR supported AHOPE with a playground at both orphanages, medications, art supplies and alarm clock reminders. Our current projects include funding a medical staff computer system, bedding replacement and medication support.
